    • Configure Avalara tax codes, rate tables, and product/service taxability mappings aligned with construction industry requirements (e.g., materials vs. labor, exempt customers, multi-state regulations).
  • Tax Compliance Management:
    • Ensure accurate calculation of sales and use tax for a variety of projects spanning multiple states and jurisdictions.
    • Support the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns through Avalara’s automated filing process.
    • Maintain exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation for tax-exempt clients and government-related projects.
  • Data Integrity & Troubleshooting:
    • Monitor system data flows and reconcile tax amounts between ERP, accounting, and Avalara systems.
    • Identify and resolve discrepancies, inaccuracies, and integration issues, partnering with IT and external Avalara support as needed.
  • Process Improvement & Documentation:
    • Collaborate with the Finance team to streamline tax-related workflows, reduce manual tasks, and improve the accuracy of tax reporting.
    • Document configuration settings, policies, procedures, and best practices for maintaining and using Avalara solutions effectively.
  • Stakeholder Support & Training:
    • Provide training and guidance to Finance teams on Avalara-related processes and reporting tools.
    • Communicate updates on tax rates, rules, and regulations to relevant stakeholders, ensuring ongoing compliance.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Prior hands-on experience with Avalara or other tax automation software is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with construction industry financial workflows and multi-state tax regulations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Basic understanding of data integrations, APIs, or middleware used in connecting Avalara to other systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret tax data, rates, and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
