Job Duties

The University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic (UW-StoutPolytechnic), Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, is seekingapplications for AV Technician. This position plays a key role insupporting the digital learning environment and instructional medianeeds of instructors and students at a PolytechnicUniversity. This position will provide support for instructional and classroomaudio-visual (AV) technology including recommending solutions,troubleshooting, providing training and consultation services. TheAV Technician assists with planning and designing AV technologiesin all classrooms, labs, and meeting rooms. This position will alsoprovide video support in learning environments. UW-StoutPolytechnic invites applicants who have strengths in communication,training, collaboration, and emerging AV technology strategy. Thisposition reports directly to the Teaching, Learning and TechnologyDirector. At UW-Stout Polytechnic, we pride ourselves on innovation andservice to our students, staff, and faculty. Key Job Responsibilities
  • Integrates, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots moderatelycomplex, routine, and varied services, systems, networks,applications, and instructional technology, including controlsystems and hardware for audio-visual (AV), videoconferencing, anddistance education, following established processes andprocedures.
  • Provide technical skills to troubleshoot audio, video, mediacontrolsystems,and instructional media hardware in the learningenvironment asrequired.
  • Provide media and AV solutions that support instructionalactivities, ensure alignment with pedagogical goals and technologystandards.
  • Maintains and operates technical systems andinfrastructure.
  • Participate in campus projects and initiatives by representinginstructional technology design, needs, and principles.
  • Consult with faculty, staff, and students to plan, design, andimplement AV and AI-enabled instructional technologies forclassrooms and learning spaces.
  • Consult with faculty, staff and students on audio, video, andvisual design and production strategy.
  • Provide training to instructors and staff on instructionaltechnology applications, systems, media hardware and software, andbest practices that support the digital learning environment.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new vendor software releasesand impact. Documents and communicates system enhancements andchanges.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of system resources,upgrades, security, implementations, and integrations.
  • Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests ITsystems, infrastructure and services in alignment with industrybest practices.
  • Create and update instructional support documentation andmaterials including tutorials, user guides, and other web-basedresources to facilitate technology adoption.
  • Assist in the planning, development, and management ofclassroom media strategies, including scheduling, maintenance,lifecycle replacement, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain inventory for replacement as well as upgrade AV andmedia equipment in learning spaces, ensuring compliance withuniversity standards and readiness for instructional use.
  • Contribute to the assessment and evaluation of instructionaltechnology effectiveness, gathering feedback, and makingrecommendations for improvements.
  • Partner with stakeholders to pilot the implementation ofAI-enabled and emerging instructional technologies to improvereliability, accessibility, and learning outcomes.
  • Familiarity with AI and its use in higher education technologysoftware and hardware.
  • Serves as a point of contact for internal and externalstakeholders to identify needs, provide solutions, and communicateissue updates and resolutions.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of small to mediumtechnical projects as needed.
  • Perform related work as required to support the activities ofLearning Technology Services (e.g., video support, AV and mediaclassroom technology, Learning Glass, etc.)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay currentwith emerging trends in instructional technology to continuouslyenhance the university’s learning environment.
  • This position will require the ability to move and carryequipment (up to 30 lbs.) and navigate environments when installingsystems.This will require standing for periods of time. This workwill include climbing ladders and the use of power tools.
Department

Learning Technology Services (LTS) is a unit with the Learning andInformation Technology Department and serves as an instructionalcenter focusing on teaching and learning for instructors of theUniversity of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic community. Offering arange of services, LTS partners with faculty and staff to provideexpertise, training and support to assist instructors withincorporating instructional technology into their teaching practiceand creating technology-enhanced instructional materials.

Additional Information

Competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications andexperience. The salary range for this position at UW-Stout Polytechnic is$54,000 – $78,000. The Universities of Wisconsin provides anexcellent benefits package, including participation in theWisconsin State retirement plan, demonstrating our commitment to the diverse needs of our employees. This position works closely with faculty and staff across theinstitution. The ability to participate in on-site, campus-basedactivities is required. Sponsorship is not available for this position. A successfulapplicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain work authorization throughout the expected employment term. Employees must be authorized to work in the United States.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to managecomplex tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrated exceptional oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AI use in higher education technology.
