Job summary

Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance seeks an AV Technical Coordinator to provide hands-on technical support for events, seasonal enhancements, digital signage, and campus-wide AV systems. The role ensures reliable, high-quality AV that enhances guest and staff experiences.

The ideal candidate will manage setup and operation of audio/video equipment, collaborate with internal teams, and maintain documentation for equipment and systems. Onsite work is required with occasional high-volume events.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree or technical training in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting AV equipment, live events, meeting tech, digital signage, or campus-wide systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate AV setup, operation, testing, and strike for meetings, events, and trainings across the zoo campus.
  • Provide responsive support during live events and daily operations, troubleshooting audio, video, projection, signage, and connectivity issues.
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain AV systems including digital signage and networked components; maintain equipment records.

The AV Technical Coordinator advances DZCA’s mission and goals by providing hands-on technical support for events, seasonal enhancements, digital signage, background music, campus-wide audio and video systems, and organizational programs. The position helps ensure reliable, high-quality AV support that enhances guest and staff experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
AV Operations and Event Support
  • Coordinate, set up, operate, test, monitor, and strike audiovisual equipment for meetings, presentations, trainings, internal programs, guest-facing experiences, seasonal events, and special events across the zoo campus.
  • Partner with the AV Technical Services Manager, Engagement and Entertainment staff, event organizers, presenters, and internal teams to identify technical needs, equipment requirements, room layouts, schedules, and support plans.
  • Provide responsive, professional support during live events and daily operations, including troubleshooting audio, video, projection, display, conferencing, digital signage, background music, campus-wide audio, control systems, and connectivity issues.
System Maintenance and Technical Support
  • Support maintenance, organization, testing, repair coordination, and safe storage of AV equipment, cables, microphones, displays, projectors, speakers, control systems, and related technology.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, testing, documentation, and ongoing support of permanent and temporary audiovisual systems, including digital signage, Q-SYS, DMX, projection mapping, and other networked AV systems as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records for equipment inventory, service requests, maintenance activity, repairs, recurring issues, event support needs, and operational updates.
Cross-Department Collaboration and User Support
  • Provide clear, courteous technical assistance and training to staff, presenters, guests, contractors, and system users to support appropriate and professional use of equipment.
  • Coordinate with IT, Facilities, Operations, vendors, external production partners, and other departments to support integrated technology needs and consistent service delivery.
  • Communicate technical updates, equipment limitations, operational changes, and support needs to the AV Technical Services Manager and appropriate stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement and Safety
  • Monitor equipment condition, system reliability, and user experience, and recommend improvements, replacements, upgrades, or process changes to strengthen audiovisual operations.
  • Follow safety procedures, event protocols, accessibility considerations, and organizational standards while handling equipment, operating lifts or similar equipment when authorized, and working in public, staff, backstage, storage, or technical spaces.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
  • Other assistance, as designated by the AV Technical Services Manager or Director of Engagement and Entertainment, to support the overall goals of the department and organization. DZCA retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
  • Acts as a good steward of the DZCA's resources.
  • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations.
  • The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of DZCA.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
  • Completion of a two-year degree, technical training, or coursework in technical theatre, sound design/engineering, audiovisual technology, information technology, media production, communications, or a related field is preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position will be considered.
  • Previous experience supporting audiovisual equipment, live events, meeting technology, classroom technology, conference rooms, technical production environments, digital signage, or campus-wide audio/video systems is preferred. Experience working in a high-volume attraction such as a zoo, aquarium, museum, science center, amusement park, cultural institution, hospitality venue, or similar public-facing environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of common AV equipment and systems, including microphones, mixers, speakers, displays, projectors, cameras, cabling, signal flow, control systems, and networked audiovisual environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly, calmly, and professionally in live, public-facing, or time-sensitive environments.
  • Experience with AV control systems is preferred, including digital signage, ScreenCloud, DMX, Q-SYS systems, projection mapping, video systems, background music systems, and campus-wide audio.
  • Familiarity with hybrid meetings, livestreaming, recording, room control systems, audio gain structure, video resolution standards, signal routing, and basic networking concepts related to conferencing or media systems.
  • Ability to operate lifts and similar equipment when trained and authorized.

  • Strong customer service, collaboration, organization, written and oral communication, attention to detail, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, adapt to changing needs, work independently, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
  • Proven computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with scheduling, service request, inventory, or incident reporting platforms is preferred.
  • Capable of handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and support snow removal operations, including shoveling, ice removal, and distribution of sand and salt.
Certifications:
  • Required to obtain Q-SYS Level 1 certification within the first year, with the organization providing support.
Position Conditions
  • Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • To support our operations, candidates must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Schedule Availability: A5-day non-traditional work week, including regular availability for weekends, evenings, holidays, early mornings, and special events. Time off should be planned with notice.

Compensation

Hourly rate is: $26.62-$32.61
