Job summary

NCS Network Cabling Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced AV Field Engineer for our Dallas and Houston offices to install, configure, commission, and support commercial audiovisual systems across multiple environments.

You'll work hands-on with video conferencing, DSPs, control systems, and AV-over-IP technologies, partnering with project managers and customers to deliver projects safely, on time, and to spec.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of AV installation, integration, or field engineering experience.
• CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification (AVIXA) required.
• Ability to travel across Texas to project sites.
• Experience with AV-over-IP, DSP programming, and control systems.
• Experience with Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, and related brands.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and troubleshoot commercial AV systems.
• Read blueprints, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, floor plans, and drawings.
• Configure AV control systems, DSPs, switches, and AV-over-IP devices.
• Test, commission, and verify system functionality before turnover.
• Perform software/firmware updates and troubleshoot issues.
• Provide on-site technical support during startup and acceptance testing.
• Coordinate with project managers, programmers, subcontractors, and customers.
• Complete project documentation and punch lists.
• Ensure installations meet specs, requirements, and safety standards.
• Conduct QA/QC walks for quality and code compliance.
• Mentor field team members and follow OSHA procedures.

Job description

NCS is hiring an experienced AV Field Engineer for our Dallas and Houston office to install, configure, commission, and support commercial audiovisual systems across corporate, healthcare, education, hospitality, government, and data center environments. You'll work hands-on with video conferencing, DSPs, control systems, and AV-over-IP technologies — partnering with Project Managers, Lead Technicians, programmers, and customers to deliver projects safely, on time, and to spec.

What You'll Do

• Install, configure, commission, and troubleshoot commercial AV systems, including video conferencing systems, digital displays, projectors, LED walls, interactive displays, audio systems, microphones, speakers, matrix switchers, equipment racks, and control processors.
• Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, floor plans, and engineering drawings.
• Configure and troubleshoot AV control systems, DSPs, network switches, and network-connected AV-over-IP devices.
• Test, commission, and verify complete system functionality prior to project turnover.
• Perform software updates and firmware upgrades on AV equipment, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Provide technical support during system startup and customer acceptance testing.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, programmers, subcontractors, and customers throughout project execution.
• Complete project documentation, punch lists, as-built documentation, and service reports.
• Ensure installations comply with manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and company quality standards.
• Conduct QA/QC walks to verify installation quality and code compliance.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to field team members.
• Follow OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of commercial AV installation, integration, or field engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience installing and commissioning commercial AV systems.
• Strong understanding of AV signal flow, audio systems, video distribution, video conferencing, AV-over-IP technologies, and structured cabling.
• Experience with equipment racks, DSP programming adjustments, matrix switchers, network switches, HDMI distribution, and fiber optic infrastructure.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex AV system issues independently.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to travel to project sites throughout Texas as needed.
• CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification, issued by AVIXA.
• Experience with Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Shure, Logitech, Poly, Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams Rooms, or Zoom Rooms.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, PoE, managed switches, and AV-over-IP systems, including Dante and/or AVB audio networking protocols.
• Proficiency with cable certification testers and audio/network analysis tools (e.g., Fluke, Dante Controller).

Commercial AV integration experience required — residential/home theater experience alone does not qualify.

Nice to Have

• CTS-I certification.
• BICSI certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience in commercial construction or active construction environments.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.
• Bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to distinguish wire and cable colors.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Commercial office buildings, corporate campuses, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, government facilities, hospitality venues, data centers, and active construction sites. Travel to customer locations and project sites is required.
