Job description

Auxiliary Programs Manager

A full-time twelve-month benefits-eligible leadership position

NPES is seeking a responsible, detail-oriented, energetic, optimistic, collaborative, and culturally responsive leader to manage and strengthen the operations of our After Care, Days-Off, Sleep under Saturdays (1x monthly), Summer’s Cool, and daily lunch programs, while lending staff support as needed (particularly in July and August when school maintains summer hours without students on campus). The Auxiliary Programs Manager recruits, supervises and evaluates a team of about six part-time Aftercare Associates who provide childcare after school and on select days when school is not in session, meets weekly with the Head of School, and works closely with our Office Manager and Director of Business & Operations. This is an outstanding leadership opportunity for an emerging or experienced educational leader who recognizes the value of these programs for students and who possesses the mindset and skills described below.

Currently, regular school-day hours for this role are 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. with breaks. Days-Off Program and Summer’s School hours are currently 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. with breaks, and Sleep under Saturday’s hours are approximately 5:00-8:30 p.m. on select Saturdays (about ten per calendar year). In July and early August hours are typically 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., unless otherwise designated. The Auxiliary Programs Manager works closely with the Head of School on educational staffing and planning but reports to the Director of Business & Operations, as this is largely an operational role.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and supervises the After Care Associates who remain on campus until 6:00 p.m. This entails recruiting, hiring, supporting, managing, and evaluating a team of part-time After Care Associates with support from the Head of School.
  • Staff, manage, supervise and design a fun and engaging day for our Days-Off program, providing childcare for preschool through fifth grade students on about a dozen days when classes are not in session (staffed by After Care Associates, Substitute Teachers, and Associate Teachers).
  • Plans, coordinates, and serves as onsite manager for the three-week K-8 summer camp called Summer’s Cool that takes place over three weeks in June, collaborating with the Junior Summer’s Cool coordinator (Early Childhood).
  • Responsible for learning and training staff on the use of Ravenna and ProCare systems for registering and billing parents for their children’s participation in auxiliary programming, and serving as the contact for parent questions concerning billing for these programs.
  • Supports positive staff morale and professional growth in their areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as the face and voice of NPES’ auxiliary programs, marketing the value of the programming and lending vision for their evolution and growth.
  • Manages the school’s lunch program for about three hours a day, including the storage, preparation, and distribution of subscription-service meals to students along with daily post-lunch cleaning of utensils and the kitchen (meals are delivered to the school by an outside vendor, and received, prepped, and distributed by this Manager). Serves as the liaison with the external vendor, and supervises select lunch periods as assigned.
  • Serves as the liaison to the school’s external composting partner, supporting the composting process in any way needed with our fifth graders and their STEM Teacher.
  • Provides lunch break coverage for the Office Manager in the main office after the children have eaten.
  • Continues their own professional growth in earnest, participating in on-site professional development and faculty meetings as their schedule allows.
  • Manages the school’s new Sleep under Saturday’s program, an evening babysitting program 1x monthly for about ten months, with a team of Associate Teachers, Substitute Teachers, and interested Associate Teachers (a pilot program with an additional stipend of $1,200).
  • Secures the school building following Aftercare, Days-Off, and Summer’s Cool (cleaning crew comes in later in the evening).

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree (preferably in a field related to child development, though not required).
  • Excellent communication skills required for working with students, parents, and colleagues, and for supervising part-time employees working in your area.
  • Previous experience in an educational, camp, museum or other non-profit mission-based organization.
  • References that confirm reliable presence, mature judgement, initiative, and positive collaboration skills.
  • Comfortable working with children of all ages, preschool through middle school.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • A commitment to contributing to an affirming, inclusive, equitable, and just community for all students and staff.
  • A growth mindset, seeing honest mistakes as opportunities for growth and finding joy in supporting the learning and growth of school-aged children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administration.
  • Comfort with and ability to utilize and master databases, spreadsheets, web-based systems, and other digital applications.
  • Willingness to undertake food handling certification and CPR training.
