Job summary

Madison City Schools is seeking an Auxiliary Nurse – Substitute to provide nursing care in the school clinic, support students with health needs, and follow district health policies.

The position requires Alabama RN or LPN license, current CPR (BLS), and experience in pediatric or emergency nursing, with a background check and adherence to safety protocols including reporting suspected child abuse.

Qualifications

  • Ability to use and implement computer technology programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care for students requiring special health procedures such as urinary catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Administers PRN and scheduled medication to assigned student in accordance with approved policy and procedures relating to medication.
  • Evaluates and provides care for students who present to the clinic for illness or injury.
  • Maintains proper and accurate documentation.
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
  • Follows health policies and crisis procedures and reports concerns to Nursing Supervisor and Principal.

Job Description

Auxiliary Nurse – This a substitute position (as needed) – no benefits.

Qualifications
  • Valid Alabama Nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Minimum of3 years of nursing experience; experience in pediatric or emergency nursing preferred.
  • Current CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer (BLS)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Supervisor(s): Nursing Coordinator for the School District & Principal

Background CheckRequired: (Ala.Code §§ 16-22A-5) - Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.

Essential Functions
  • Provides nursing care for students requiring special health procedures such as but not limited to urinary catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration, and nebulizer treatments
  • Administers PRN and scheduled medication to assigned student in accordance with approved policy and procedures relating to medication.
  • Evaluates and provides care for students who present to the clinic for illness or injury
  • Maintains proper and accurate documentation
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established first aide procedures
  • Enforces the guidelines of the School District’s health policies
  • Contacts Nursing Supervisor when unsure of specific procedure
  • Contacts Principal and Nursing Supervisor regarding crisis situations in the school. This includes child abuse, threatened suicide, and accidents.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  • Follows individualized health care plans for students with chronic diseases.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, health care providers and staff, as appropriate
  • Able to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching.
