Job summary

Shield AI's Software Development Engineer Intern program invites students to design, build, and test code that powers autonomous systems. Over 10–12 weeks, interns work with full‑time engineers to analyze requirements, write production‑quality code, and deliver a feature using Agile practices.

Projects span applications, firmware/embedded, machine learning, and systems development, with hands‑on experience in C/C++, Python, cloud basics, and version control.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (C, C++, Python, Java, or JavaScript).
• Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
• Experience writing, testing, and debugging code through coursework or internships.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills and teamwork.
• Exposure to mobile/web development frameworks and full‑stack concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with embedded systems, microcontrollers, RTOS, or assembly debugging.
• Coursework or projects in ML, statistics, probability, or DL frameworks.
• Experience with cloud platforms, databases, networking, or distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum.
• Past internships or projects in robotics, autonomy, or aerospace.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and write production‑quality code in a team environment.
• Ship a real feature or capability during the internship.
• Collaborate with full‑time engineers across projects (web, embedded, ML, systems).
• Participate in Agile development practices and code reviews.
