Job summary

Northeastern University seeks a Research Data Analyst to support defense-focused projects applying ML/AI to autonomy, sensing, and decision support systems. The role includes Navigator methodology research, prototype modeling and simulation, ML tool testing and validation, and contributions to proposals and internal systems build-out.

This onsite role is based in Boston, MA, with an expected annual salary range of USD 60,315 - 85,192.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or closely related field.
• 2–4 years of professional experience in software engineering, data science, or applied R&D with exposure to ML/AI development.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with modern ML/AI development workflows.
• Hands-on experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch) including model training and evaluation.
• Experience with distributed or GPU-enabled computing environments and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS GovCloud).
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to prototype solutions with guidance from senior engineers.
• U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Research and Development support to scale the Navigator Methodology for defense contracts, including prototype modeling and simulation.
• Testing and validation of ML tools across sprints, projects, and deliverables.
• Subject matter expertise across application areas and sponsor requests, including meetings with government, industry, and academic partners.
• Special projects with leadership to scope proposals and internal systems build-out.
