Role Definition

This role contributes to the design, integration, validation, and delivery of Driver Safety System capabilities at Caterpillar. The Integration Engineer leads system-level integration activities that connect safety technologies with software, hardware, machine controls, sensors, autonomy middleware, and operational workflows into reliable customer-ready solutions. Operating with a high degree of collaboration and technical ownership, this role applies systems engineering, software architecture, and product validation expertise to align requirements, interfaces, implementation, testing, and release readiness across teams and platforms.

What You Will Do:
  • Define, decompose, and manage system-level requirements, interfaces, and integration scope across complex safety and site technology programs.
  • Lead or support system integration, validation, verification, test review, test witnessing, and release readiness activities for software, hardware, and robotic systems.
  • Design and align system architectures for interfacing autonomy middleware, machine control hardware, sensors, safety systems, and other autonomy-related devices.
  • Collaborate across software, hardware, machine, site, safety, and partner teams to ensure architecture intent, implementation, and verification remain aligned.
  • Consult on integration issues between robotic software, existing infrastructure components, machine platforms, and customer-facing products.
  • Communicate requirements, technical risk, system readiness, trade-offs, and delivery status to stakeholders and partner teams.
  • Apply new technologies and engineering judgment to improve autonomy, robotics, and safety technology capabilities while balancing time, cost, quality, and risk.
  • Document system architecture, design decisions, interface expectations, I/O requirements, validation strategy, and success criteria
What You Have:
  • Systems Integration and Engineering Experience: Demonstrated experience developing, decomposing, and managing system requirements, interfaces, integration strategies, and validation plans across complex, multi-team or multi-product environments. Proven ability to connect software, hardware, machine controls, sensors, and operational workflows into scalable system solutions.
  • Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design and architecture; ability to convert market, customer, and system requirements into practical software and system designs. Experience facilitating design reviews, evaluating architecture alternatives, and analyzing trade-offs.
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle practices; ability to use structured methods for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products from concept through release.
  • Software Product Testing: Knowledge of software product testing, verification, and validation; ability to design, plan, and execute test strategies that confirm product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of relevant autonomy, robotics, embedded, software, and system technologies; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve issues across hardware, software, applications, and operations.
  • Effective Communications: Ability to clearly transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, requirements, risks, and technical concepts using communication behaviors appropriate to the audience.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to manage concurrent objectives, projects, groups, and activities while making effective judgments about prioritization and time allocation.
  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Engineering, or a related field — or commensurate industry experience.
Consideration for Top Candidates:
  • Proven experience as a Systems Engineer, Integration Engineer, or technical lead on software, hardware, robotics, autonomy, or embedded product development programs.
