Job summary

MITRE Corporation seeks a technically senior contributor to advance autonomy and AI for embodied systems across defense, healthcare, and public safety. You will evaluate AI solutions, lead research initiatives, and collaborate with sponsors to translate requirements into robust robotic capabilities.

You will work primarily on-site, with opportunities to influence strategy and own domain knowledge in autonomy, computer vision, and ML, while pursuing necessary security clearances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 2 years of autonomy and AI experience; or advanced degree with relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with computer vision, deep learning, machine learning, control theory, human–machine teaming, or multi-robot systems.
• Ability to articulate autonomy challenges (perception, reasoning, behaviors, collaboration) and discuss real-world constraints.
• Familiarity with state-of-the-art autonomy research and tools, including ROS 2 and Docker.
• Ability to learn new technologies independently and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of advances in autonomy and robotics capabilities.
• Leverage technical expertise to evaluate and improve AI/Autonomy system performance.
• Provide thought leadership on autonomy/AI adoption for robotics hardware and cloud environments.
• Evaluate autonomy or AI solutions and provide guidance to sponsors based on requirements.
• Work on robotics topics such as computer vision, deep learning, ML, planning, and multi-robot systems.
• Build capabilities in growth areas for Autonomous Systems (e.g., healthcare robotics, space robotics).
• Help department execute strategy around enabling high-consequence applications of Autonomy, including assurance, testing, and societal implications.
