Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s SEI AI Division seeks an autonomy engineer to lead and conduct engineering research for government needs. You will focus on enhancing simulation capabilities and applying tools to autonomy-related projects, partnering with interdisciplinary teams to turn research into prototype operational capabilities for defense customers.

Qualifications

  • Extensive research or engineering in applied autonomy and AI.
  • Experience with ML for autonomy and uncrewed systems.
  • Strong systems engineering background across lifecycle stages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to turn research into prototype capabilities for government customers.
  • Conduct and lead prototyping in AI for autonomy and uncrewed systems.
  • Plan and execute a research and engineering strategy aligning with national defense needs.
  • Collaborate with researchers, government customers, and stakeholders to define challenges and directions.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to design sessions and knowledge sharing.
