Job summary

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) AI Division at Carnegie Mellon University seeks a senior research scientist with deep expertise in advanced computing to drive research addressing critical U.S. government needs.

You will lead interdisciplinary teams, turn findings into prototype operational capabilities for government customers, and guide rapid prototyping and evaluation in relevant environments. You will work on hardware/software co-design, HPC, FPGA design, and algorithm optimization,

Qualifications

  • Requires BS with 10+ years, MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Willing to work onsite 5 days a week at Pittsburgh office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead novel research in advanced computing and applied machine learning.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to turn research results into prototype capabilities for government customers.
  • Conduct rapid prototyping to demonstrate and evaluate technologies in relevant environments.
  • Test and evaluate new and novel systems for performance and usability.
  • Collaborate with researchers, developers, engineers, designers, and government customers to understand challenges and potential solutions.
  • Mentor and teach junior staff, lead design sessions, and establish technical norms.
  • Explore the latest hardware including FPGAs, CGRAs, TPUs, and emerging neuromorphic/analog processors.
  • Help plan and execute an overarching research strategy influencing national agendas.
