Job summary

Kett Engineering Corporation in Chicago, IL is seeking multiple Autonomous Systems Validation Operators for 1st and 2nd shifts. You will drive and test prototype vehicles with autonomous software and hardware, gather data, and provide operational feedback to accelerate safe deployment.

The role involves hands-on testing on public roads and tracks, collaboration with hardware and software teams, and thorough post-drive reporting. AV experience and a valid license are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid driver's license in the state of residence.
• Clean driving record: no suspensions in the last 3–5 years.
• No drug or alcohol-related driving incidents in the last 3 years.
• Travel up to 50% for off-site field testing.
• Prior automotive driving, vehicle fleet operations, or autonomous vehicle testing experience.
• Ability to operate autonomous vehicles independently or with a partner for 6–8 hours per day.
• Proficiency with laptops, smartphones, and collaboration software (Google Docs, Sheets, Maps).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to articulate technical events.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate prototype test vehicles in autonomous, semi-autonomous, and manual modes across diverse conditions.
• Follow safety protocols and intervene to ensure vehicle safety.
• Execute predefined autonomous test cases and edge-case evaluations on roads and tracks.
• Identify and debug hardware, software, and sensor anomalies with diagnostic tools.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to report issues via online ticketing systems.
• Manage onboard logging equipment and verify data transfer for analysis.
• Perform OTA updates and system flashes across vehicle ECUs.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and sensor calibration/setup.
• Produce clear post-drive reports and logs for stakeholders.
