Saint-Gobain is seeking an Autonomous Team Lead for the 2nd shift to guide a small team in a plant environment. You will prioritize safety, coach team members, and drive improvements in quality, productivity, and cost.
You will coordinate daily tasks, attend meetings, and support problem solving with cross-functional teams. Applicants should have at least 1 year of manufacturing leadership experience and strong analytical skills.
SUMMARYThe Autonomous Team Lead (2nd shift) designations are generally applied to individuals when (a) they lead personnel in production operations and they have personnel actions responsibilities such as selection and hiring, time and attendance, incentive evaluations, and certain disciplinary actions, or (b) they lead personnel whose work is in maintenance and craft areas.An ongoing part of the role involves monitoring department activities, interpreting standards and procedures, troubleshooting, selecting, and assisting workers in resolving set-up, technical and mechanical problems. Responsible for various administrative duties associated with documenting work orders, scheduling work, procuring / researching vendors, ordering parts and equipment. Group Leader II also demonstrates the knowledge/skills of the trade and/or production work performed.The Autonomous Team Leader (ATL) is responsible and accountable for a small work team (approx. 7-15 operators) that is focused on the performance of a specific area within a plant’s Value Stream. The ATL is empowered to act as the leader for the designated area and is responsible for service, quality, productivity and cost. In order to achieve these goals, the ATL has to lead and coach the team members in the specific area and ensure that all individuals work collaboratively to achieve the specified goals and objectives. In addition to leading, this individual is a working member of the team to ensure that the team hierarchy is balanced and roles are fair and consistent.GENERAL DUTIES OF A GROUP LEADER II AND AUTONOMOUS TEAM LEADSafety and DevelopmentTakes responsibility for the safety and well-being of the team. The expectation is one of a continuously improving safety culture and improved safety performance. All team members are expected to be trained and active safety auditors. Manages team safety performance and sustainment of 5S initiatives. Evaluates the training needs of the team and maintain an up to date training matrix. The team cross training matrix will be a functional visual tool used in daily planning to match resources with demand. Maintains responsibility for the complete, safe and proficient training of team members. Has authority to shut-down production and seek resolution when safety and certain quality standards are not being attained.Providing LeadershipSolicits and recognizes team input with the expectation that he/she will engage in decision making with the team and be responsible for the outcomes. Drives decisions involving the selection and placement of new team members. Supports additional team resource (headcount) requests by data and current team performance. Organizes and prioritizes customer demand placed on team and plans own and team members’ daily work assignments, overtime (may be subject to supervisory/value stream approval), and selected machine operations to ensure overall and specific requirements are met. Meets with team membersto communicate directions, duties, and assists getting work set-up and started. * Meets the team budget and manages expenses to output.
Meetings and FacilitationServes as the validator of all visual tools, assuring that they are used as prescribed and that the information is accurate and meaningful. Leads the team through daily presentation of team KPI performance to various business leaders at the teams visual management display boards. Articulates team accomplishments and areas of concern to all levels of leadership. Leads the team with a high level of integrity, consistency and fairness as the team continuously improves performance. Recognizes team and individual accomplishments while fostering a work environment conducive to mutual respect for one and other.Process/Problem Solving * When plan is not met, leads development of clearly defined corrective actions and applies rootcause analysis techniques to drive issues to sustained closure. Monitors individual / team production status and progress of work. Intervenes deviations to plan or chronic individual production shortfalls with corrective actions. Serves as the liaison between team members and other departments, (i.e., Engineering, Maintenance, Technicians, Product Managers, Customer Service, Production Planning) along with supervisor /the Value Stream Coach to evaluate/troubleshoot and convey any identified team technical, productivity, safety, quality, and/or disciplinary problems. Troubleshoots mechanical problems and determines appropriate internal/external personnel to conduct repair to enable effective allocation of team, trade specialists, and/or outsourcing decisions.Administration * As the key decision maker in all steps of the process, may bring forth and support disciplinary requests of team members. With approval, communicates feedback disciplinary discussions to individuals of his team. Performs various administrative functions for time & attendance review, inventory variance, and in documenting, researching, scheduling, procuring, and coordinating repair of tools/equipment. Responsible to determine appropriate internal or external resources for job, (i.e., outside vendors vs. team members).Functional Work * Establishes applicable and beneficial procedures that assure increased productivity and profit. Will assist as a hands-on team member in all functional duties as well as process improvement activities to ensure compliance to work orders, increase departmental quality, increase efficiencies, and decrease downtime when possible. An expectation of greater than 51% direct work with the team will be required. Reassigns team members to fill in during periods of increased production, difficulty of job, absenteeism and/or other occasions to meet quality / safety requirements and productivity schedules. Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge of functional duties and company policies, and answers questions from other workers on procedures, policies, work orders, and other directions. Serves as a subject matter expert on particular functional area and often coordinates with technical and engineering personnel on matters affecting the operation specifications or modifications to equipment, product, or processes.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the local pay range for this position, which is $36.14 to $39.76 per hour. In addition to the hourly base, this position is eligible for a monthly incentive bonus payout as part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on team's performance, and is not a guarantee up to $487.52/month.
