Job summary

The Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Software Engineer to join the Electronic and Photonic Systems (EPS) Department in Maryland. The role focuses on unmanned systems and unattended sensors, contributing to design, integration, and lifecycle management of autonomous platforms for complex maritime environments.

The successful candidate will work with project managers, engineers, and customers through all lifecycle phases, testing and deploying robust software for a system-of-systems in

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field.
  • 5+ years of software integration experience.
  • 5+ years of Linux experience (RHEL).
  • Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Deconstruct mission needs into system architectures and software interfaces for unmanned systems and sensors.
  • Elicit and maintain requirements for unmanned systems, sensors, and mission software; ensure traceability.
  • Provide technical oversight for software, autonomy, integration, and testing activities.
  • Lead or support integration of software components, autonomy behaviors, and sensor interfaces in various environments.
  • Collaborate with Navy stakeholders, software developers, and external vendors for interoperability.
