Greywright Inc. in Boston is seeking a senior systems architect to own and evolve the architecture for its autonomous platforms, from vehicle to command-and-control, including the expansion of the autonomy stack to new capabilities and platforms.
You will design open, modular interfaces and lead trade studies to balance performance, risk, and cost. You will drive MBSE practices (SysML), derive system requirements, and define ICDs across hardware, software, data, power, and communications.
Own and evolve the system-of-systems architecture for Greywright's autonomous platforms, from vehicle to command-and-control, starting from our existing baselines. Assess the baseline architecture, identify gaps, and lead a prioritized upgrade roadmap. Integrate third-party OEM systems with Greywright-designed systems: evaluate partner products, define integration approaches, and manage technical dependencies on outside vendors. Specify and control interfaces (ICDs) for hardware, software, data, power, and communications across in-house and OEM components. Lead the evolution of our autonomy software architecture, including perception, planning, navigation, and vehicle control, extending the existing stack to new capabilities and platforms. Design for open, modular standards so systems from different suppliers can plug in and be swapped out. Lead architecture trade studies and document key decisions, balancing performance, risk, cost, and schedule. Derive and flow down system requirements; own the system architecture model (e.g., SysML/MBSE). Define system-level approaches to safety, cybersecurity, resilience, and degraded-mode operation (e.g., GNSS- or comms-denied). Serve as technical point of contact with OEM partners and customers in design reviews and integration planning. Guide GNC, software, hardware, and test teams so subsystem designs stay consistent with the overall architecture.
B.S. in Systems, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years architecting autonomous, robotic, or uncrewed systems. Proven experience integrating third-party or OEM systems with in-house designs into a working, fielded product. Experience extending or modernizing an existing autonomy stack. Deep understanding of autonomy software stacks, sensors, networking, and embedded and distributed systems. Experience writing and managing interface control documents and system requirements. Strong grasp of communications and data links, middleware (e.g., ROS 2, DDS), and message standards. Track record of making and defending architecture decisions with engineers, partners, and customers. Clear writer and communicator who can explain complex systems to technical and non-technical audiences. Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time when needed. This role requires access to ITAR/EAR-controlled data; U.S. person status is required as defined by 22 CFR 120.62. Nice to have M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant field. Experience with defense open-architecture standards such as MOSA, UCI, or similar government reference architectures. Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret or higher security clearance; an active clearance is not required. MBSE tooling experience (e.g., Cameo, Capella). Experience architecting multi-vehicle or collaborative autonomy and command-and-control systems. Background in maritime autonomous systems. Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks for defense systems (e.g., RMF, NIST 800-171). Experience supporting government programs through design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR). Meaningful early-stage equity.
