Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Milwaukee, WI seeks a Physician Assistant to provide clinic-based care exclusively within the Pre-Operative & Pre-Procedure Clinic (COTC).

The PA will operate with full autonomy, with periodic collaboration with a physician available in person or via telehealth for consultation. This role focuses on pre-operative evaluation, coordination, documentation, and patient education, with clinical duties limited to non-procedural tasks.

Responsibilities

• Pre-operative/pre-procedure evaluation and documentation
• No procedural or OR duties in this role
• Authorized to write medical orders within scope
• Document clinic activities in CPRS
• Maintain COTC appointment schedule
• Track clearance status of surgical candidates
• Complete pre-op requirements timely
• Perform pre-op H&P and relay findings
• Coordinate pre-op testing and consults
• Educate patients about procedures and expectations
• Obtain informed consent when appropriate
• Identify deviations from protocols and correct them
• Participate in teaching residents on COTC protocols
• Collaborate with COTC staff and specialists to ensure readiness
• Assist with administrative duties as directed by leadership
• Work schedule includes standard M-F hours; not a telework position
