Job summary

FELICIS in Menlo Park, CA is seeking a Research Engineer to help build an autonomous lab for accelerating materials discovery. You will translate scientific goals into hardware setups and automation workflows, working closely with scientists and engineers.

You’ll design and configure lab instrumentation, collaborate with AI and data teams, and troubleshoot instrument issues to keep experiments running smoothly. A PhD and hands-on experience with materials R&D are essential.

Qualifications

PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Strong working knowledge of common materials lab hardware and workflows.
Ability to translate scientific intent into clear technical requirements.
Comfort writing Python to interact with instruments and automate workflows.

Responsibilities

Translate experimental goals into hardware and workflow requirements.
Evaluate, select, and configure lab instrumentation to support workflows.
Design experimental and automation workflows for synthesis and characterization.
Serve as the technical bridge between scientists and automation/software engineers.
Troubleshoot instrument and workflow issues requiring materials domain knowledge.
Collaborate with AI and data scientists to shape data structure for analysis and planning.
