Job summary

Relyans is seeking a Tool Technician to maintain, repair, assemble, and prepare tooling used in automotive fastener production in a high-volume environment. You will ensure tooling is kept in optimal condition to support quality, uptime, and efficiency, and you will repair and modify tooling using a range of prints and machinery.

Responsibilities include tooling inspection, repairs, changeovers, and ongoing support to production teams, while adhering to safety and ISO standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training in machining, toolmaking, or manufacturing technology preferred.
• 2–5 years in tool room, machining or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience with cold heading, thread rolling, or fastener tooling preferred.
• Able to read engineering drawings and tooling prints.
• Able to use precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Strong mechanical aptitude; physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Basic MS Office knowledge (Outlook and Excel).
• Effective communication and customer service attitude.
• Works independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, repair, and refurbish tooling components (punches, dies, cutter packs, thread rolling dies).
• Troubleshoot tooling with micrometers, calipers, gun gauges and prints.
• Operate hydraulic presses, surface grinders, chop saws, lathes, pencil grinders for repairs.
• Assemble tooling packages per drawings and setup sheets.
• Prepare tooling for production changeovers and manufacturing runs.
• Provide technical support to production during setups and tooling changes.
• Report tool changes to Tool Service Technical Production Coordinator.
• Inspect tooling with precision instruments and verify conformance to specs.
• Maintain organized tooling storage and track usage and lifecycle.
• Identify opportunities for tooling performance improvements and setup efficiency.
