Are you self-motivated, technically, and mechanically skilled?
The Office of Fleet Management in the Finance and Administration Cabinet, is looking for a strong individual who can diagnose, maintain, repair, advise, and assist other technicians with in-depth vehicle repairs. Below is a summary of the responsibilities and knowledge needed for this position.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following
- Performs complex automotive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs in a fleet maintenance garage setting. Provides senior grade training assistance and mentorship to lower graded lessor experienced automotive technicians within the fleet garage. Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed.
- Performs major repairs and computer diagnostics on power train engine management systems as required. Conducts the removal, repair and/or replacement of major component assemblies such as: engines, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
- Performs precise diagnostics and repairs on automotive system modules and electronics utilizing the most current diagnostic equipment, knowledge and experience to mentor, train and assist equal and lower graded technicians to aid in the overall production output and success of the fleet garage.
- Performs accurate analysis and repairs to automotive drivability issues including drivetrain and driveline components and suspension.
- Performs accurate troubleshooting repair and service on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) with the utilizing the most current service and test equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures including oil changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing. Maintain assigned bay and shop tools and equipment for accountability and serviceability.
Skills and Expectations include, but are not limited to:
- Extensive automotive repair skills with A.S.E. certifications.
- Good computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service experience.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in one of the medium/heavy truck or automobile test series. Must be ASE certified in AC recovery. http://www.ase.com. Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
