Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky in Frankfort, KY is seeking an Automotive Technician II. The role requires ASE certification and at least three years of automotive or equipment repair experience, along with a valid driver's license. You will perform complex repairs, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance in a repair facility, mentoring junior staff where needed.

A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered, with pay at $30.20 hourly (approx. $62,816 yearly) plus OT eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Must have three years of automotive/equipment repair experience.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • ASE certified in medium/heavy truck or automobile series, including AC recovery.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Good computer skills and clear communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex automotive mechanical repairs, maintenance and diagnostics.
  • Aids less experienced automotive mechanics.
  • Maintains expert level brake systems knowledge.
  • Performs major mechanical repairs on powertrain systems.
  • Troubleshoots drivetrain, driveline and HVAC diagnostics and repair.

Description

The Office of Fleet Management is looking for an ASE Certified automotive mechanical repair technician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs complex automotive mechanical repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics in an automotive repair and maintenance garage environment.
  • Aids less experienced automotive mechanics.
  • Possesses expert level brake systems knowledge and skills.
  • Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed.
  • Performs major mechanical repairs and computer diagnostics on powertrain management systems.
  • Conducts the mechanical repair or replacement of major component assemblies such as: engines, transmissions, transfer cases and drive axle assemblies.
  • Performs precise diagnostics and mechanical repairs on automotive system modules and electronics utilizing the most current diagnostic equipment, knowledge and experience to mentor, train assist lower skill level auto mechanics and technicians.
  • Performs accurate diagnosis and mechanical repairs to correct automotive drivability issues including drivetrain and driveline components and suspension.
  • Performs accurate troubleshooting, mechanical repair and service on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) by utilizing the most current service and diagnostic equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance including oil changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing.
Preferred Knowledge
  • Intermediate automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great organizational skills

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:

High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:

Must have three years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:

Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.)

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in one of the medium/heavy truck or automobile test series. Must be ASE certified in AC recovery.
