The City of Fairburn is seeking to fill an Automotive Technician I who is experienced and professional with extensive automotive technical skills. The Automotive Technician I is responsible for the inspection, repairs, and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for some fabrication and welding work related to the repair of vehicles. G1 ASE or Manufacturer certifications preferred. Experience working in General Automotive Service industry or Fleet Maintenance. The Automotive Technician I reports to the Automotive Supervisor.
Hiring Range: $22.89 - $25.18 Hourly Rate (Depending on qualifications)
Work Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY
The Automotive Technician I is responsible for the inspection, repairs, and maintenance of city-owned vehicles and equipment including lawn maintenance equipment. This position is responsible for some fabrication and welding work related to the repair of vehicles. G1 ASE Certifications preferred. The Automotive Technician I reports to the Automotive Supervisor.
Education and Experience: High school or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of automotive repair experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid State of Georgia driver’s license; G1 ASE Certifications or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment; Series ASE certification or ability to obtain within two (2) years of employment.
Special Requirements: Requires an acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check, and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Requires pre-employment medical evaluation and satisfactory results from a pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing in accordance with state regulations. This position is deemed safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The work is moderate work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Work requires regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Work is performed in a shop environment. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, odors, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, or toxic agents.
