Job description

What You’ll Do:

This position works under general supervision and requires thorough knowledge of auto mechanics with automotive service excellence certification in at least four areas, including two of the following: A1 engine repair, A8 engine performance, T2 diesel engines, or T8 preventive maintenance inspection.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team of lower-level auto mechanics and/or inmates, providing work direction and training in automotive maintenance and repair.
  2. Performing major overhauls of engines and repairing complex equipment issues.
  3. Carrying out minor and major vehicle repairs.
  4. Assisting inmates/mechanics in diagnosing mechanical problems, inspecting work, and ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  5. Adhering to tool control and chemical safety policies.
  6. Rebuilding or replacing parts such as electrical components, alternators, water or fuel pumps, clutches, and brake systems.
  7. Adjusting valves and performing preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  8. Performing miscellaneous tasks like body repairs, tire replacements, and diesel injector maintenance.
  9. Providing emergency vehicle and equipment repairs.
  10. Maintaining a clean work environment and operating various equipment including snow plows and tow trucks.
  11. Scheduling maintenance, maintaining repair records, and updating manuals.
  12. Operating welding equipment and computer systems for data management.
  13. Managing inventories, ordering parts, and controlling inmate movement.

Certifications and Requirements:

The final candidate must possess automotive service excellence certification in at least four areas, including two of the specified certifications. The selected applicant will be required to undergo urinalysis testing before employment, with positive results disqualifying employment per Ohio law. A valid commercial driver’s license is required if operating regulated motor equipment.
