Responsibilities

• Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, safety, maintenance, and performance concerns.
• Diagnose vehicle problems using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer information.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, fluid checks, and battery service.
• Repair braking, suspension, steering, and undercar systems.
• Inspect, rotate, mount, balance, and replace tires as needed.
• Diagnose and repair starting, charging, and basic electrical systems.
• Perform engine-related maintenance and repairs within training.
• Replace worn or defective components.
• Conduct pre-sale or pre-delivery inspections.
• Communicate findings and provide accurate estimates for parts and labor.
• Complete repairs accurately within time estimates.
• Road test to verify repairs.
• Document inspections, repairs, parts used, and future services.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good condition.
• Follow safety procedures and company policies.
• Keep a clean, safe, organized work area.
• Assist with preparing vehicles for sale.
• Report significant issues to management.
• Maintain inventory of commonly used parts and notify when replenishment is needed.
• Participate in ongoing training to stay current with automotive technology.

Job Summary:

The Automotive Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position performs routine maintenance and mechanical repairs, identifies vehicle issues, documents recommended services, and works closely with management and sales personnel to ensure vehicles meet company standards before being offered for sale or returned to customers. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to performing quality automotive work safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, safety, maintenance, and performance concerns.
• Diagnose vehicle problems using appropriate diagnostic equipment, inspection techniques, and manufacturer information.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, battery service, and other scheduled maintenance.
• Diagnose and repair braking systems, suspension systems, steering components, and related undercar systems.
• Perform tire inspections, rotations, mounting, balancing, repairs, and replacements as needed.
• Diagnose and repair starting, charging, battery, and basic electrical systems.
• Perform engine-related maintenance and repairs within the technician's level of training and certification.
• Replace worn or defective vehicle components as necessary.
• Conduct pre-sale or pre-delivery vehicle inspections.
• Identify necessary repairs and communicate findings clearly to management.
• Provide accurate estimates of required parts, labor, and repair time when requested.
• Complete assigned repairs accurately and within established time expectations.
• Perform road tests when necessary to confirm vehicle concerns and verify completed repairs.
• Document inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs, parts used, and recommended future services.
• Maintain automotive tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, and shop equipment in proper working condition.
• Follow manufacturer specifications, company procedures, and accepted automotive repair practices.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures, including requirements for vehicle lifts, tools, chemicals, batteries, fluids, and personal protective equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work area.
• Assist with preparing acquired or traded vehicles for sale.
• Inform management immediately of any significant mechanical or safety condition discovered during an inspection or repair.
• Maintain appropriate inventory of commonly used shop supplies and notify management when parts or materials are needed.
• Participate in training and remain current on automotive technology, diagnostic procedures, and repair methods.
• Perform other automotive service and maintenance duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous automotive maintenance or repair experience or completion of an automotive technical training program.
• Working knowledge of automotive mechanical systems.
• Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair common automotive problems.
• Familiarity with automotive hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to safely operate vehicle lifts and other automotive service equipment.
• Ability to read and understand repair instructions, service information, technical specifications, and diagnostic information.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned repair work efficiently.
• Ability to safely operate customer and company vehicles.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, working underneath vehicles, and lifting automotive parts, tires, tools, and equipment.
• Commitment to workplace safety and proper handling of automotive fluids, chemicals, batteries, and equipment.

Preferred:

• Two or more years of professional automotive repair experience.
• Completion of an accredited automotive technology or automotive repair program.
• ASE certification in one or more automotive repair areas.
• ASE G1 Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair certification.
• ASE A4 Suspension and Steering certification.
• ASE A5 Brakes certification.
• Experience diagnosing electrical and electronic vehicle systems.
• Experience with computerized automotive diagnostic equipment and scan tools.
• Experience performing used vehicle inspections or dealership reconditioning.
• Experience servicing multiple vehicle makes and models.
• State vehicle inspection certification or license, where applicable.
• Experience in a dealership, automotive repair facility, tire shop, or high-volume service environment.
