Job summary

Cadillac of Englewood Cliffs is seeking an Automotive Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles using advanced diagnostic tools. You will work with customers and the service team to provide accurate assessments per dealership standards.

The role requires hands-on repair work, strong mechanical skills, and experience with hybrid/electric vehicles. A focus on safety, quality workmanship, and customer communications is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of automotive technician training program or apprenticeship.
  • NJ Inspector's License.
  • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicle makes and models.
  • GM certified.
  • Proficient use of diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Experience with hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • Familiarity with manufacturer-specific diagnostic software and repair procedures.
  • Strong customer service and ability to explain technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair work outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Diagnose causes of malfunctions and perform repairs per customer concerns.
  • Communicate with Parts to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts for warranty or customer request.
  • Assess vehicles for further safety or service needs.
  • Inform Service Advisors if additional work is needed or cannot be completed.
  • Document all work on Repair Orders.
  • Determine labor times/quotes based on standards.
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to test technician.
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training and stay updated.
  • Keep abreast of factory bulletins.
  • Supervise apprentices as assigned.
  • Maintain dealership-owned tools and manuals in good condition.
  • Comply with OSHA and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Operate tools safely and report safety issues promptly.
  • Be punctual and a positive team player.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Job description

As an Automotive Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of vehicles. Your primary objective will be to diagnose, repair, and maintain automotive systems using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. You will work closely with customers and team members to provide accurate assessments and effective solutions that meet dealership and manufacturer standards. This role demands a strong commitment to quality workmanship, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols. Ultimately, your expertise will contribute to vehicle performance, customer satisfaction and the overall success of the automotive service operation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform work as outlined on Repair Orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and manufacturer standards
  • Diagnose cause of most malfunctions and perform repairs based on customer concern
  • Communicate with Parts department to obtain needed parts
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
  • Communicate with Service Advisors immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
  • Document all work performed and recommended on Repair Orders
  • Determine proper labor times/quotes based on industry standards or repair manual labor times
  • Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician
  • Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, school, and events
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
  • Supervise work of any apprentice technicians as assigned
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
  • Ensure that customers' cars are kept clean. Notify service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
  • Keep shop area neat and clean
  • Maintain and is accountable for all dealership‑owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
  • Understand, keeps abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management
  • Be punctual and a positive team player
  • Other tasks as assigned
