Job summary

The Shyft Group's Utilimaster division in Bristol, IN is seeking a Painter 1 to paint full-sized vehicles with high quality and efficiency. The role requires 1–2 years of automotive painting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work with paint equipment and safety standards.

Responsibilities include applying base and clear coats, mixing tints, maintaining paint codes, performing PPE, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet production goals. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required; automotive paint certification or vocational training preferred.
• Minimum 1–2 years automotive paint experience.
• Excellent attendance and a positive attitude.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Self-motivated, team oriented, and good communication.

Responsibilities

• Paint full-sized vehicles with minimal defects.
• Perform preventive maintenance on paint equipment.
• Identify and spot repair paint defects per specs.
• Verify cleaning chemical concentrations.
• Pre-treat and prep cabs and parts for paint.
• Spray base coat and clear coat.
• Mix tints to match paint codes.
• Maintain documentation of paint codes.
• Coordinate material movement within the paint area.
• Load and unload parts per process documentation.
• Support 5S and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Resolve issues with cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing).
• Learn and retain skills needed in the area.
