POSITION:

Maintenance Technician (Tech 1)

DEPARTMENT:

Mechanic Shop (AIO)

REPORTS TO:

AIO General Manager

FLSA:

Non-Exempt (Union)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs of all fleet equipment, including fuel and electronic diagnostics on company owned equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Must be able to lead and instruct repairs for other techs.
• Assist Lead mechanic with repairs and scheduling of jobs.
• Diagnoses problems with equipment, disassembles units, repairs and/or replaces parts, and then reassembles unit.
• Performs skilled welding to repair worn or broken parts, including design and fabrication.

• Tests repairs to ensure that all concerns have been resolved; make recommendations if further safety repairs are needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Associate’s Degree in automotive or heavy equipment, plus ASE certifications

Experience/Skills/Knowledge:

• Computer skills and able to navigate on a laptop or tablet.
• Valid CDL-A, CDL-B or Type 4 license
• Ability to operate various trucking equipment within Company premises
• Have a strong understanding of risk and safety procedures
• Must have a basic set of tools to perform duties as assigned
• Proficient in the use of mechanized and air tools, diagnostic testing and tuning equipment, gas and electric welding equipment and various hand tools
• Proficient in diagnosing and repairing the following: air and hydraulic brake systems, cooling system, drive train, steering and suspension systems, exhaust and emissions control, electrical, hydraulic systems, air systems, etc.
• Ability to read and comprehend technical service and wiring diagrams

MENTAL/PHYSICAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Required to complete multiple repairs with time-sensitive deadlines.
• Work under minimal supervision and high-pressure environments.
• Be able to apply logic and reasoning to solve complex and analytical problems.
• Use sound judgment and discretion in performing work duties.
• Requires long periods of standing, bending, leaning and lying down, and climbing in and out of operating equipment.
• Requires lifting 50 lbs.
• Ability to communicate, both oral and written.
• Attend all department and company meetings and/or training.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Mainly outdoors
• Requires working with chemicals (oil, solvents, aerosols etc)
• May be exposed to dusty and windy working conditions
• May require travel on or off Island and to other Company divisions, location of inoperable equipment to perform needed repairs.

NORMAL WORK HOURS

• Monday thru Friday shift schedule which includes weekend availability (On call)
• May require working overtime, on the weekends and holidays per direction of AIO General Manager

• Execute goals and direction provided by AIO General Manager.
