Job description

Job Title: Automotive Maintenance Supervisor

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for supervising and working with a small crew of skilled automotive mechanics. The role involves overseeing repair and maintenance tasks, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining records. The position may include the following duties:

  1. Supervising a small crew, evaluating performance, recommending leave, and initiating disciplinary actions.
  2. Assigning repair and maintenance jobs to automotive mechanics.
  3. Advising and assisting subordinates in major repairs and diagnostics; using computer equipment for diagnostics.
  4. Performing major and minor repairs on motors, chassis, bodies, and related components.
  5. Ensuring vehicles and equipment comply with safety regulations.
  6. Meeting with management to discuss projects and performance.
  7. Maintaining equipment, stock, and performance records.
  8. Determining needs for parts and equipment, and making requisitions.
  9. Inspecting repair work and conducting performance tests.
  10. Using a computer to manage work orders and reports.
  11. Operating commercial motor vehicles requiring a commercial driver’s license.

Qualifications include:

  1. Two (2) years of experience as a fully-skilled automotive mechanic.
  2. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  3. Some positions may require a valid Class A commercial driver’s license, with possible endorsements such as Passenger Transport (P), Hazardous Materials (H), or Tanker (N).

The application process involves a multiple-choice examination covering reading comprehension, problem sensitivity, logic and reasoning, parts identification, safety, and mechanical repair & diagnostics, weighted 75%, and a training evaluation weighted 25%. Approved applicants will be notified of their test schedule. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list for two years, with potential interviews, background checks, and drug tests for employment consideration.
