Job summary

Army Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) seeks a skilled maintenance technician to troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul major vehicle components and systems including engines, transmissions, differentials, and electronic fuel injection.

You will disassemble and reassemble, perform checks, observe safety rules, and operate test equipment while following technical manuals; readiness and compliance are essential. This is a full-time position with flexible hours and potential overtime based on mission needs.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul major vehicle components and systems (engines, transmissions, differentials, transaxles, EFI, emissions, electrical).
• Disassemble, repair, recondition, reassemble and test components per manuals and best practices.
• Use test equipment (engine analyzers, compression testers, benches) to verify repairs.
• Operate vehicles to test repairs and move equipment; observe safety and sanitation rules.
• Mentor and document procedures as required.

Duties

• Work involves troubleshooting, repairing, and/or overhauling major components and systems such as engines, transmissions, differentials and transaxles, electronic fuel injection systems, emission control systems, and related electrical, etc.
• Tears down, adjusts, repairs, reassembles, and runs operational checks on components of these systems following instructions contained in technical manuals. Observes safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and requirements.
• Isolates and repairs complex malfunctions which are often difficult to trace by a combination of visual and auditory examinations, and uses a wide variety of test equipment such as computerized engine analyzers, compression testers, test benches, etc
• Disassembles, repairs, replaces, reconditions, and rebuilds components of the various systems and makes independent judgments based on specifications in technical manuals and on accepted trade practices.
• Operates vehicles to test repair and move around facility. Preforms other duties assigned.

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
• Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2 to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
• Must possess a valid driver's license as required by local/state or military regulations.
• Work is often performed in tiring, awkward and uncomfortable positions.
• Frequent standing, bending, stooping and crawling.
• Lifts supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 44 lbs.
• Exposed to drafts, noise, fumes, dirt, dust and grease, and automotive fluids that may cause irritation from chemicals.
• Required to follow safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, and safety glasses and exercise proper handling of equipment and hazardous materials to avoid serious injury in the work area.
• Must be able to work irregular hours of duty, to include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Allowances and Differentials

• This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week -- whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.
• Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
