Position Description
This full-time, regular, represented, safety-sensitive position is located in the Department of Central Services, Fleet Division. It involves mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.
The work includes responsibility for participating in the mechanical repair and maintenance of various automotive equipment such as passenger cars, trucks, and tractors. Initially, work is closely supervised, but as proficiency is gained, employees are expected to perform routine repairs independently. Assistance to higher-level mechanics or performing complex repairs under supervision may be required. Work is reviewed during and after completion for quality.
Employees perform repairs as outlined in repair orders, inspect vehicle fluids, tune engines, change tires, replace spark plugs, set timing, and conduct service calls. They participate in overhaul and repair of transmissions, differentials, and assemblies, inspect and replace various vehicle systems, repair carburetors and clutch assemblies, and perform minor hydraulic repairs. Road-testing vehicles and reporting safety issues are also part of the duties. Employees assist higher-level mechanics and perform related work as required.
