Job summary

City of Shreveport is seeking a Senior Certified Mechanic to maintain and repair a range of automotive vehicles and equipment in a municipal setting. Under supervision, you will use hand tools, timing devices and specialized electronic equipment to perform diagnostics and repairs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and 2+ years of progressive automotive repair experience or a two-year technical program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Must have a valid operator's license.
• At least 2 years in progressively responsible automotive repair experience or graduation from an accredited two-year technical program in automotive repair.
• Ability to use independent judgment in planning sequence of operations in selecting proper tools and materials: ability to attain prescribed qualitative standards.
• Manual-hand-finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, uses hand tools, timing devices and specialized electronic equipment to maintain and repair automotive vehicles and other operating equipment.
• Performs general automotive repair and maintenance tasks.
• Analyzes and determines cause of malfunctions to automotive and/or vehicles, light, medium, and heavy equipment.
• Repairs, removes, replaces and installs ignition systems, lights, instrument panels, brakes, radios, heaters, mirrors, windshield wipers and other components, parts and units.
• Receives work orders and selects appropriate tools and material.
• May require test driving vehicles after repair completion.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
