Franklin Cummings Tech is seeking an Automotive Lab Assistant to support instructors and students in the automotive lab. This work-study role focuses on preparing tools, maintaining equipment, and guiding hands-on activities under instructor direction.

Responsibilities include maintaining safety standards, assisting with vehicle prep and diagnostics, and ensuring a clean, compliant lab environment. Applicants must be enrolled students with a 2.0+ GPA and available 2 days weekly.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student at Franklin Cummings Tech (Franklin Cummings Tech)
• GPA 2.0 or above
• Work a minimum of 2 days a week between 8am–4pm with some shifts as needed
• Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license
• Must be able to lift 75lbs and stand for 3 hours

Position Summary

The Automotive Lab Assistant supports instructors and students in the safe, organized, and effective operation of automotive laboratory sessions. This work study position helps prepare and maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and components; reinforces safe work practices; and assists students with hands-on activities under instructor direction.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Lab Support: Assist automotive instructors in coordinating and running day-to-day classroom labs, ensuring a safe and organized environment.
• Equipment and Tooling: Prepare, maintain, and organize lab equipment, tools, and safety gear; ensure all items are in working order and meet safety standards.
• Student Assistance: Support students during lab sessions by demonstrating techniques, helping them operate equipment, and guiding them on safe practices.
• Safety Compliance: Monitor lab activities to ensure students follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
• Lab Maintenance: Keep the lab clean, orderly, and in compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
• Specialized Tasks: Assist in preparing vehicles or components for lab work, oversee disassembly and reassembly, and support student diagnostics and repairs.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled student at Franklin Cummings Tech
• Must maintain good academic standing (a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or above).
• Work a minimum of 2 days a week between 8am-4pm with some shifts as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 75lbs
• Must be able to stand for 3 hours

The hourly wage for this position is $25.00 an hour.
