Job summary

UPS Aberdeen, MD is seeking a reliable Automotive Journeyman Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team. You will service a diverse range of vehicles, including delivery trucks, heavy-duty tractors, and trailers, using diesel, gasoline and alternative propulsion systems. Candidates must have 3–5 years of experience, diagnostic tool proficiency, and the ability to meet DOT requirements. A valid driver’s license is required; CDL is preferred but not mandatory. Shift is 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of automotive mechanic experience with diesel and gas heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and PC.
  • DOT inspections experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; 21+; CDL preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work varying shifts and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a diverse range of equipment including delivery vehicles, heavy-duty tractors and trailers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair propulsion systems, hydraulics, electrical, and engine controls.
  • Meet DOT requirements.

The Automotive Technician will be responsible for maintaining a diverse range of equipment, including delivery vehicles, heavy-duty on-road tractors, and trailers from various manufacturers. These vehicles' propulsion systems include diesel, gasoline, and alternative technologies such as compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane, hybrid, and electrical in some locations. Automotive Technicians must be skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining various systems, including hydraulic brakes, air brakes, electrical systems, and engine controls. **Responsibilities and Duties*** Meets D.O.T requirements required by job assignment* Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs ladders and stairs, stands, walks, and turns/pivots frequently throughout duration of workday* Sits infrequently, as required, throughout duration of workday* Exercises simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary to complete assigned tasks* Operates standard and manual transmission* Operates power and pneumatic tools**Requirements*** Must have an active driver’s license issued by the state* Must be 21 years or older* Must be willing to work 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. shift, Monday-Friday* Must possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.* CDL Class A or B - strongly preferred; however, candidates without a current CDL must be willing to obtain one within the first year of employment.**Knowledge and Skills*** Current documented 3-5 years of Automotive Mechanic experience working with diesel and gas heavy-duty vehicles.* Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer* Hands-on experience with fleet repairs and/or dealership environments.* Experience performing DOT Inspections* Dependable with ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete scheduled workday on a consistent basis* Available to work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs* Wears personal protective equipment as required* Works in an environment with variable temperatures and humidity (climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, and noise, outside inclement weather, etc.* Works cooperatively in a diverse work environment* Communicates effectively through sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditionsOur compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The starting pay for this position is **$40.01** per hour with a one-year progression to top pay **$47.07.** For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.
