Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time Automotive Equipment Operator I (AEOI) position in the Motor Pool department. This position is under the direct supervision of the Automotive Pool Manager I.A Training and Development opportunity may also be considered.
The AEOI is responsible for loading, unloading, and delivering various patient and hospital related items such as food, clean and dirty laundry, personal care items, patient property, postal packages, warehouse supplies, State property and equipment; and other correlated items; transporting patients throughout the secured areas of the hospital utilizing a 24-passenger bus; operating a refuse packer (trash truck) for the purpose of collecting refuse and recycling items throughout the hospital and delivering to the local landfill and recycling center; conducting office moves, set-ups/take-downs for hospital special events, and other hospitals needs as required; completes daily pre-trip inspections and maintains applicable logs; and operating, servicing, fueling, washing, and vacuuming passenger vehicles, light trucks, box trucks, refrigerated food trucks, refuse packer, transportation bus, and other automotive equipment.
Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Class B California Commercial Driver License with an Air Brake Endorsement to operate the Trash and Food Trucks and a Passenger Endorsement to drive the patient bus equipped to transport fifteen (15) or more passengers; have 1 year experience in operating a box truck, passenger vehicle, forklift, and similar motorized equipment; loading and unloading vehicles correctly and safely; performing minor adjustments and repairs to trucks and vehicles; good mechanical ability; and will be subject to random drug/alcohol screenings regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
All candidates must have the capability of following directions, possess a true understanding of posted speed limits in patient occupied grounds, hospital security regulations, and Motor Vehicle Codes pertaining to the operation of vehicles on public road.
NOTE: Candidates that do not possess the required license and/or endorsements may participate in the interview process, if qualified, but must secure the required license AND endorsements prior to appointment. A Class B Permit without the endorsements may be accepted for a Training and Development Assignment for the AEOI position, but a valid license AND endorsements must be acquired to be considered for Permanent status.
The Motor Pool Department operates seven days a week. Successful Candidate must be available to work any shift in a variety of settings throughout the hospital. May also be required to work overtime and float to other work locations determined by the operational needs of the hospital.
A drug screen must be passed prior to hiring.

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
