Job summary

Kia Design Center America in Irvine, California is seeking a Designer I with focus on exterior or interior design. You will develop concept proposals and renderings, and create 3D sketch models using Alias, SubD, Maya, or Blender.

The role includes collaborating with design, engineering, and marketing teams and may involve travel to Korea. The candidate should have a design degree and a strong visualization background, with experience in automotive design being a plus.

Qualifications

• BS, BFA, MS, MFA or Diploma in Transportation / Product Design with a primary focus on Exterior Design.
• "Professional design experience at an Automotive Design studio is a plus, but not essential if internship and college projects are at comparable levels in execution."
• "Strong ability to utilize various types of 2D and 3D visualization software (Photoshop, Sketchbook, Procreate, etc.) and strong digital modeling skills (Alias, SubD, Maya, or Blender)."],

Responsibilities

• Create innovative design proposals for concept cars, production car programs, and advanced explorations.
• Demonstrate ability to visually communicate design proposals through sketches, rendering, 3D modeling and AI tools.
• Independently generate high-quality 3D sketch models using Alias, SubD, Maya, or Blender.
• Guide the design process from concept through development, including travel to Korea.
• Research trends in automotive design and emerging technologies across fashion and architecture.
• Attend auto shows and design-related events as needed.
• Work self-sufficiently with a proactive mindset and collaborate with teams to meet engineering criteria.
• Oversee development models with clay and CAS sculptors for presentation-ready materials.
