POSITION OVERVIEW

The Automotive Customization & Installation Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, customizing, and repairing automotive aftermarket products while maintaining a high standard of workmanship, safety, customer satisfaction, and attention to detail. The technician will work with a variety of vehicles and automotive accessories, ensuring all installations are performed according to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable safety requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Automotive Customization & Installation Technician will perform duties across the following service areas, based on training, experience, and assigned responsibilities.

GENERAL SHOP RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform pre-installation vehicle inspections and document existing damage when required.
• Protect customer vehicles during installation and repair.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Properly use and maintain tools and equipment.
• Complete assigned work within established timelines.
• Communicate installation concerns, delays, and additional work requirements to management.
• Participate in quality-control inspections and final vehicle checks.
• Assist fellow technicians and contribute to a professional team environment.
• Follow company policies, safety procedures, and customer service expectations.

TECHNICIAN QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Automotive Installation Experience

• Previous experience in automotive accessory installation, automotive electronics, mechanical work, or a related trade.
• Demonstrated ability to work with hand tools and automotive installation equipment.
• Ability to learn and perform installation procedures across multiple product categories.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

• Basic understanding of automotive electrical systems and 12-volt wiring.
• Ability to read and follow wiring diagrams, technical instructions, and installation manuals.
• Ability to use common hand tools and appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of proper component fitment, mounting, and installation practices.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional workmanship.
• Ability to identify potential safety hazards and report them.
• Ability to protect customer vehicles from damage.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

The technician must be able to perform the physical requirements associated with automotive installation and customization, with reasonable accommodation where required by law.

• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined vehicle areas.
• Lift, carry, and position automotive parts, tools, and equipment appropriate to the assigned duties.
• Work with hand tools and equipment for extended periods.
• Safely enter and exit vehicles and work around vehicles in a shop environment.
• Perform detailed visual and hands-on work.
• Work in environments that may involve noise, dust, automotive chemicals, and varying temperatures.
• Follow proper lifting, equipment-handling, and workplace safety procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Two or more years of professional automotive electronics or aftermarket installation experience.
• Experience with remote-start and vehicle security installations.
• Experience working on domestic and foreign vehicles.
• Professional window tint installation experience.
• Experience with wheels, tires, lighting, performance products, and exterior accessories.
• MECP certification or comparable automotive electronics training.
• Experience with electrical diagnostics, minor fabrication, or advanced accessory integration.
• Previous experience in a high-volume automotive customization shop.

COMPENSATION

Based on the technician's experience, technical skills, and ability to complete installations independently.
