AUTOMOTIVE BODY SHOP TECHNICIAN

The Position

The Body Shop Technician repairs damaged body parts and bodies of vehicles in accordance with factory and dealership specifications using hand tools and power tools.

Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, insurance representatives, and other employees.
• Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Reasoning ability: apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions; deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
• Must be 18+ years of age.
• Ability to work full-time.
• Desire to learn and advance to full body technician status.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• One-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 17 required classes.
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic equipment, and trim to access vehicle body and fenders.
• Use tools to remove dents and damaged parts, replace panels, align frames, and perform finishing work including painting.
• Repair or replace mechanical parts as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Stand, sit, handle, reach, climb, balance, talk, and hear frequently.
• Occasionally walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl.
• Lift up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 75 pounds occasionally.
• Vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral.
