Job summary

MPP is seeking an Automation Technician in Campbellsburg, IN to develop and implement automation solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability of plant operations. You will automate materials handling, inspection tasks, and machine tending while improving existing systems.

Responsibilities include designing automation from concept to implementation, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components, and supporting system upgrades and safety

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of control systems experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Develop automation system designs from concept through implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of automation systems.
  • Respond promptly to automation equipment breakdowns and production support requests.
  • Assist in system improvements to minimize production downtime.
  • Inspect equipment for proper operation and identify potential issues before failure occurs.
  • Support installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery upgrades.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with spare parts inventory development and maintenance recommendations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job DetailsJob Location: Campbellsburg, IN 47108The Automation Technician is responsible for developing and implementing automation solutions to facilitate safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role supports production operations by automating materials handling, inspection tasks, and machine tending through implementing new automation systems while maintaining and improving current automation systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop automation system designs from concept through implementation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of automation systems.
  • Respond promptly to automation equipment breakdowns and production support requests.
  • Assist in system improvements to minimize production downtime.

SPECIFIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and fabricate, or have made, mechanical components.
  • Develop and implement software control programs for robotic systems, programmable controls, and operator interfaces.
  • Develop and implement hardware controls like electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Develop and maintain accurate system documentation, including mechanical prints and assemblies, electrical drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, and control parameters.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support contractors and vendors during automation development, implementation, upgrade, and repair activities.
  • Participate in safety audits and ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Test equipment after repairs to verify proper functionality and operational safety.
  • Communicate equipment status and repair updates to supervisors and production personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Occasionally lift and move materials or equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Visual acuity required for equipment inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Occasional bending, squatting, reaching, and twisting may be required.
  • Non-standard/off-shift hours may be necessary for automation system support.
