Job description

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Automation Technician (Levels 3/4) to support the Automation Controls Engineering team at the Promontory, Utah facility.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain Allen Bradley PLCs, VFDs and other control systems.
• Perform software control, PLC and HMI programming, and troubleshoot/replace electrical hardware such as PLCs, I/O, sensors, and other components.
• Assist with developing practices to minimize downtime and improve reliability of automated plant equipment.
• Conduct test readings using instruments including analog signal testers, power monitors, oscilloscopes, signal generators and digital multimeters.

Qualifications

• Minimum experience: 5+ years as an electronic technician for Level 3 or 10+ years for Level 4.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent training in Electronics Technology.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to work on equipment in all weather, including ladders, man lifts, and scissor lifts.
• Experience troubleshooting/diagnosing machine electrical control systems, PLC, servo, VFD, RTD, TC hardware, and understanding electrical schematics.
• Proficiency with PLC ladder logic and HMI logic (Allen Bradley PLCs preferred).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Windows 11, software installation, and licensing.
• Experience with remote and shared account access.
• Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC/HMI systems and communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and ControlNet.
• Experience with AC/DC drives, servo systems, and 480‑V/3‑phase equipment.
• Experience with NDT systems, CNC machines, process/instrumentation controls, camera systems and fire alarm systems.
• Proficiency with oscilloscopes and high‑voltage measurement test equipment.

Salary & Benefits

Primary Level (Automation Technician 3) salary range: $57,500.00 – $95,900.00. Secondary Level (Automation Technician 4) salary range: $68,300.00 – $113,900.00. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain positions, long‑term incentives.
