UC Santa Barbara’s NSF ExFAB BioFoundry is seeking an Automation Specialist to develop and run automated workflows for microbiology research. You will interface with internal and external users, lead coding, testing, and optimization of integrated automation platforms, including anaerobic systems.

The role emphasizes collaboration to publish protocols and workflows, contribute to scholarly papers, and present at conferences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years' relevant experience or Master's with 1+ year (required at time of application).
• Experience in developing automation workflows that recapitulate wet-lab experiments.
• Employment levels: Associate Specialist with Master's or 5+ years; Full Specialist with PhD or 10+ years.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with ExFAB users to develop and perform experiments using automated systems.
• Lead programming, testing, and optimization of ExFAB's automation platforms.
• Represent ExFAB at conferences and pursue supplemental extramural funding.
• Manage platforms and instrumentation for growth, phenotyping, nucleic assays, and microbial transformation.
