Job summary

GenScript USA Inc/ProBio Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer to provide daily technical support for laboratory automation platforms at the Piscataway site.

You will troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software issues, perform preventive maintenance, and support installation and upgrades. The role reports to the Automation Engineer within GenScript's Gene R&D department, emphasizing building knowledge bases, developing SOPs, and collaborating with lab users to improve

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field.
• 1+ year of relevant engineering experience in equipment support, automation, maintenance, or a technical environment.
• Hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
• Strong documentation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily technical support for laboratory automation platforms, including troubleshooting, repair, and recovery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensor, robotic, and software-related issues.
• Support automation platforms such as Tecan, Hamilton, and other equipment.
• Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance to improve reliability and minimize downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or significant equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain service history, maintenance records, and error information.
• Develop and update SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures.
• Assist with equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications, and small improvement projects.
• Collaborate with laboratory users to resolve issues and improve daily automation operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily technical support for laboratory automation platforms, including troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, repair, and equipment recovery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensor, robotic, communication, and basic software-related issues.
• Support automation platforms such as Tecan, Hamilton, and other laboratory automation equipment.
• Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or significant equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Track recurring equipment issues and identify opportunities for reliability and performance improvement.
• Maintain equipment service history, maintenance records, troubleshooting records, and error information.
• Build and maintain an Automation Knowledge Base, including common issues, troubleshooting procedures, root causes, corrective actions, recovery procedures, and Lessons Learned.
• Develop and update SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures to support long-term knowledge transfer.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications, and small automation improvement projects.
• Work closely with laboratory users to resolve equipment issues and improve daily automation platform operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
• 1+ year of relevant engineering experience in equipment support, automation, maintenance, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
• Experience reading technical manuals, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to perform systematic troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Strong technical documentation and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with laboratory automation systems or automated life-science equipment.
• Hands-on experience with Tecan and/or Hamilton automation platforms.
• Experience with liquid handlers, robotic arms, plate handlers, stackers, barcode scanners, sensors, motors, pneumatics, or similar automation components.
• Experience supporting equipment preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance.
• Experience creating troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures, SOPs, or technical knowledge bases.
• Basic understanding of equipment communication, networking, TCP/IP, serial communication, or automation software is a plus.
• Basic programming or scripting experience is a plus.
• Experience in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environment is a plus.

Compensation

Salary range: $60,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and qualification
