Standard university hours vary by season: 8:30am – 5:00pm (academic year); 8:00am – 4:30pm (summer). Hours may vary based on operational needs.

Job Description

The Automation Engineer will manage and support campus building automation systems, including card access, temperature, lighting, snow melt, and utility monitoring. Responsibilities include diagnosing and troubleshooting system/network issues, working with various departments and contractors, and overseeing subcontractors on construction projects.

Education and Experience
  • Associates Degree with HVAC knowledge OR 5+ years of HVAC DDC control system installation experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with climate control and building automation systems.
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, Continuum, Automated Logic, Siemens Desigo.
  • Leadership skills for project management and staff development.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience with DDC Controls Systems and HVAC/lighting control concepts.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of low voltage electricity and communication protocols like BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks.
  • Ability to analyze project requirements and develop specifications and programming.
  • Knowledge of control programming protocols and databases.
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, program, and implement building automation solutions for HVAC, lighting, snow melt, and card access.
  • Manage and estimate DDC projects, including infrastructure design and system integration.
  • Develop, test, and maintain systems across various software languages and protocols; provide troubleshooting support.
  • Coordinate resources and support with university departments and vendors.
  • Train staff and building occupants on systems.
