AMCA International in Arlington Heights, IL is seeking an engineer to implement laboratory instrumentation, automate test systems, and improve fixtures and infrastructure for higher quality and efficiency. You will lead design, documentation, sourcing, and validation while mentoring technicians.

The role combines office and lab work in a hybrid setup (3 days in office). A mechanical/electrical engineering degree and HVAC/automation experience are required, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in engineering with up to 5 years of practical experience.
• Basic understanding of Lean principles.
• Experience delivering technical reports and business correspondence.
• Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, automation tools, and processes.
• Familiarity with common lab tests and equipment for conformity assessments.
• Office software proficiency; LabVIEW or programming experience; Excel VBA a plus.
• Ability to travel internationally with a valid passport.

Responsibilities

• Develops, designs and/or applies new laboratory instrumentation and automation for testing and infrastructure upgrades.
• Prepares technical documentation including drawings, BOMs, SOPs, calibration procedures and validation.
• Supports existing laboratory instrumentation and test systems to meet needs.
• Ensures safety requirements for new and existing test systems.
• Updates automation hardware and software as needed.
• Owns documentation for complex internally developed systems (drawings, source code, equipment lists).
• Evaluates requests for modifications to ensure alignment with performance and efficiency goals.
• Collaborates with global colleagues to maintain consistency and scalability of lab instrumentation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
