Saelens LLC in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a hands-on Automation Engineering Leader to develop and implement advanced automation and autonomous manufacturing cells. You will lead automation projects, influence technical decisions, and partner with operations from concept to production handoff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, controls, mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, or manufacturing engineering.
• Minimum seven years of industrial automation experience.
• Strong knowledge of PLC and HMI platforms, robotics, machine vision, motion control, networks, and safety.
• Experience collaborating with automation integrators, equipment manufacturers, and vendors.
• Ability to balance technical requirements with operational needs, schedules, cost, and risk.
• Excellent communication and hands-on problem-solving skills with leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the automation and controls roadmap for autonomous manufacturing cells.
• Lead projects from concept to integration, commissioning and production handoff.
• Design and integrate robotics, PLC/HMI controls, machine vision, sensors, motion systems, and safety.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, IT, and external integrators.
• Create standards, specs, documentation, and change-control practices.
• Use metrics like throughput and ROI to prioritize projects and measure results.
• Troubleshoot and ensure reliability, maintainability, and scalability of systems.
• Share knowledge and build automation capabilities across the organization.
