Job summary

Axis Automation seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern Co-op in Grand Rapids, MI. You will support the engineering team across project stages, learning CAD modeling, tooling design, and manufacturing processes under mentor guidance.

This rotation-based program exposes you to SolidWorks, 3D drawings, BOMs, and hands-on testing with robotic and automation systems, helping you build practical skills for an engineering career.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or related field (minimum 2 years completed preferred).
• No prior professional experience required; coursework, projects, or personal engineering pursuits a plus.
• Basic familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) from coursework or self-study.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating 3D models and 2D technical drawings for automation components using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Support the design of basic mechanical parts under guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in prototype assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of robotic and automated systems.
• Help maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs and design records.
