Job summary

BTD, a fast-growing metalworking company with 1100+ employees, seeks a co-op or engineering intern to support the Engineering team across multiple projects. You will learn by doing, assist to design, build, test, install and operate automated manufacturing systems, and create detailed CAD drawings.

You will contribute to lean initiatives, analyze run times, and support cost-reduction efforts while developing problem-solving and communication skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics/Automation, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering program at a two or four year college or university, progressing toward a degree.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills with initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Support operations by working with the Engineering team to learn through multiple projects.
  • Assist in designing, building, testing, installing, and operating automated manufacturing systems.
  • Create and edit 2-D/3-D CAD drawings for project items.
  • Write and edit robotic or PLC programs to produce parts.
  • Identify safety and quality risks and root causes.
  • Apply time studies or MTM/MOST to validate setup/run times.
  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives and product flow improvements.
  • Evaluate historical data on run rates to determine accuracy.
  • Assist in cost-reduction initiatives and other duties as assigned.

Serves as a resourceforengineering leadership inachieving siteobjectivesfor safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and continuous improvement.Resolvesquestions or concernsregardingindividual part processes.Improvescurrent processes andconductsinvestigations to reduce inefficiencies.

Essential Functions

The co-op or intern supports operations by working with the Engineering team tolearn through:

  • Directionfromdepartment leadership and engineerstocomplete tasks for multiple projects.
  • Assistingtojustify, design, build,test,install, andoperateautomated manufacturing systems.
  • Designinganddetailing ofitems within a project with theuseof 2-D CAD and/or 3-D CAD software.
  • Writingand editingrobotic or PLC programs needed to produce parts for the project or customer.
  • Identifyandeliminatesafety and quality risks and root causes.
  • Utilizingtime studies or pre-determined timing methods such as MTM or MOST tovalidatesetup and run times.
  • Assistingwith lean manufacturing initiatives and product flow improvements.
  • Evaluatinghistorical data on run rates todetermineaccuracy.
  • Assistingin creation and evaluation of cost reductions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities

High school diploma or equivalent required.Must beenrolled ina Mechanical,Electrical,Robotics/Automation, Industrial, or ManufacturingEngineeringprogram at atwo or four yearcollege or university, progressing toward a degree.

Experience and Skills Required
  • Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and cause prevention (error proofing) skills.
  • Ability to work independently and show strong initiative and ownership of ideas and projects.
  • Strong computer skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Priormanufacturing, especially fabrication and welding, experience is beneficial.

Work Environment

The position has good working conditions in general butis a diversified job requiring sustained mental effort related to organizational issues, planning and technical areas. The individual mayencountermoderate emotional strain or tension.There is sustained exposure to sitting. There is also moderate exposure to Video Data Terminals (VDTs) and moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds).

Compensation Salary Range

OTC4 $18.67 - $26.12 per hour. The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
