Expedient is seeking an Automation Engineer to identify, design, and implement automation across the organization. You’ll partner with teams to translate workflows into reliable tooling, blending hands-on coding with stakeholder engagement.

The role emphasizes production-grade automation, AI-assisted development, and building with Python while integrating CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and internal platforms. Hybrid work near Baltimore, MD or Pittsburgh, PA.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Experience building, deploying, and maintaining automation scripts and infrastructure.
• Real-world experience using AI coding tools to build and ship production software.
• Ability to analyze a business or technical process for automation opportunities.
• Experience writing scripts that collect data from diverse sources.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong communication to gather requirements and formalize technical specs.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new systems, tools, and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Assess processes across the organization for automation feasibility.
• Meet with stakeholders to document workflows and translate requests into automation requirements.
• Design, build, and deploy automation solutions in Python.
• Use AI coding tools as part of the development workflow, including prompting and refining AI-generated code.
• Build and maintain internal apps and dashboards with low-code and real code where appropriate.
• Maintain, monitor, and improve automation infrastructure and scripts.
• Deploy and operate solutions using CI/CD, containers, and Kubernetes.
• Support internal builders and citizen developers with secure, performant patterns.
• Communicate project status, trade-offs, and outcomes to stakeholders.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects and context-switching.
