Job summary

MSD's Enabling Facilities group in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Specialist – Automation Engineer to support PEMI project design, startup, and commissioning. The role focuses on integrating the PEMI SCADA system (Ignition-based) to coordinate data and flexible batch experiments on multiple OEM devices including Sartorius AMBR250, Getinge bioreactors, TFF, lyophilizers, and containment isolators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Engineering, Science, or Computer-Science or related technical discipline with minimum of 3 years of progressive automation or process control experience in a regulated GxP environment.
• Core Systems: Proficiency with industrial PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms (e.g., Rockwell and/or Siemens).
• Experience with SCADA systems.
• Experience with AVEVA PI System or comparable historian platforms.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including root cause analysis.
• Ability to prepare and review SOPs and cGMP documentation.
• Experience with Quality Systems.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot automation and instrumentation issues and implement corrective actions to improve reliability, safety, and operations.
• Manage system patches, firmware upgrades, backups, and cybersecurity hardening aligned with IT policies.
• Ensure robust data integrity and audit trails for operational needs.
• Support design, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and test documentation.
• Provide on-call support as part of facility operations rotation.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and IT to align automation with uptime and safety goals.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including standardization and improved diagnostics.
