Job summary

Amyris is seeking an Automation Engineer II to support, troubleshoot, and improve automated laboratory workflows. You will work with liquid handlers, laboratory instrumentation, and scientists to develop high-throughput workflows from design to analysis.

This fully onsite role is based in Emeryville, CA, and offers opportunities to grow scripting and programming skills, while solving practical hardware and workflow challenges in a production-scale synthetic biology platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Approximately 23 years of relevant experience in laboratory automation or related technical environment.
• Hands-on experience with automated laboratory instrumentation and liquid-handling platforms.
• Exposure to scripting concepts (Python, C#, VBScript) used in automation.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, labware, and workflows.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support development, testing, and deployment of automated laboratory methods on liquid handlers and platforms.
• Translate manual protocols into reliable automated workflows with established standards.
• Provide day-to-day troubleshooting and technical support for automation systems.
• Coordinate with vendors for maintenance and service under established processes.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of system reliability and uptime.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and knowledge sharing.
