Job summary

Steel Dynamics Melt Shop in Columbus, MS seeks an EAF Automation Engineer to update controls, HMIs, and OSs, while troubleshooting processes and RSLogix related issues. You will configure industrial networks and drive continual improvements alongside Level 1/2 engineers.

The role requires 3–5 years in the metals industry, strong PLC skills, and a proactive attitude toward safety and training others. On-site responsibilities include collaborating across teams to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor1s degree in Electrical Engineering/Automation/CS or equivalent.
• 315 years in metals industry (Steel Dynamics, Inc.).
• Strong PLC experience and networking skills.
• Willingness to learn and train others.
• Excellent safety record.

Subsidiary Steel Dynamics Overview Melt Shop / EAF Automation Engineer Responsibilities

• Update controls, HMI’s, OS’s, prints, etc.
• Troubleshoot process issues
• RSLogix Troubleshooting
• Setup, maintain and configure industrial networks (ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet, Profibus)
• Continual improvements with process and controls with small and large scale projects.
• Work closely with Level 1 and Level 2 Engineers to ensure quality and manage project time work.

Qualifications Required

• Excellent safety record and understanding of TCOS.
• Bachelor’s Degree: Electrical Engineering/Automation Engineer/Computer Science or similar experience
• Multitask and manage projects/maintenance outages
• PLC experience/expertise
• Willingness to learn and train others
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Excellent computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Visio, AutoCad, etc.)
• Willingness to work unscheduled hours/days
• VFD setup, networking, and controls (Schneider Electric, Siemens, Toshiba)
• Microsoft SQL, Kepware and other Level 1 to Level 2 software Preferred
• Automation experience withthe following: RSLogix, RSLinks, Asset Center, Ignition and other types of automation software
• VFD setup, networking and controls (PowerFlex, Toshiba, SoftStarts)
